In addition to paying attention to the economic reasons that motivate the desire to migrate of male migrant workers such as difficult family economic conditions, poverty along with low income and lack of jobs. Economic events such as gambling, debt; migration costs are relatively low compared to the income from migration. Differences and disparities in income levels, wages, attractiveness and demand for human resources in the Chinese labor market are higher than in Vietnam, etc. This chapter emphasizes the importance of analyzing the reasons for migration in general and of male migrant workers in particular based on factors related to culture, social structures and norms, and gender perspectives.
Chapter 3: Experiences of male migrant workers across the Vietnam-China border.
In this chapter, I have analyzed in depth the experiences of the group of male illegal cross-border migrants from Vietnam to China. Including experiences on the migration route, especially experiences related to work and life in the foreign land, issues of social connection, remittance practices, as well as issues of health, illness and risk behaviors of male migrant workers.
