10. Summary of thesis results:

- Word classes are a very important part of the Vietnamese and Chinese grammar system, they are indispensable words in the communication process (Chinese calls them quantifiers). They account for a significant amount in the grammar system.Vietnamese and Chinese vocabulary tube. Frequency of use is also very high.

- In this thesis, we focus mainly on the issue of surveying the current situation of word type translation from Vietnamese to Chinese, on two works “The retired general” by Nguyen Huy Thiep and “Two women in the village” by Nguyen Quang Thieu. Based on the statistics of the number of word types appearing in the original and the translation in each work, it can be seen that word types are used very commonly in both Vietnamese and Chinese. Next, we base on the statistics of word types in the original and the Chinese translation, dividing all sentences with word types appearing into five cases, including (1) Special cases (the word type “个 cá” in the Chinese translation); (2) Cases where the original has the word type, but the translation also has it; (3) Cases where the original has it, but the translation does not; (4) Cases where the original does not have it, but the translation has the word type; (5) Cases where the translation is inaccurate or incorrect. The results show that, overall, the translation of the genre from Vietnamese to Chinese through the two selected works was very successful. The percentage of inaccurate or mistranslated parts was very low (average for all cases was around 1%).

- The method of translating word types from Vietnamese to Chinese of the two works that the translator applied includes direct translation and meaning translation. Meaning translation includes: literal translation, untranslated translation and translation according to the cultural context of the target language. In other words, the translator skillfully based on the meaning of the original work, combined with finding corresponding expressions according to the language habits of native speakers to flexibly handle cases related to word types.

- The translation of word types is closely related to the context, and at the same time requires the translator not only to understand the original, but also to master the expression in two languages for the same phenomenon. On the other hand, it is necessary to grasp the cultural context of the source language and the target language. Only then can we find an expression that is both true to the spirit of the original and suitable to the language habits and cultural context of the translation.

- From the results of the survey and analysis of the current situation of translating Vietnamese into Chinese through two selected Vietnamese literary works, we combine with the theory of translation to make some recommendations for Vietnamese people learning Chinese as well as Chinese people learning Vietnamese while using Chinese and Vietnamese word types as well as suggest to them about the translation method so that it both reflects the spirit of the source text and is suitable for the linguistic and cultural context of the translation, in order to achieve high efficiency in communication. The specific recommendations include three points: (1) focus on negative transfer of the mother tongue; (2) Grasp the difficult points and important key points of word types; (3) Based on the level of the learner to convey knowledge about word types from simple to complex, towards forming for the learner a broad enough background knowledge about word types to be able to apply appropriately to the context, improving the effectiveness of teaching and communication.

11. Practical application:

This thesis has found the translation rules and given opinions and recommendations on usage, especially word class translation, contributing to clarifying the differences and translation rules of word classes for future Vietnamese and Chinese learners.

7. Official thesis title: Study about Translation Methods of Classifiers from Vietnamese to Chinese - Take Chinese and Vietnamese Bilingualism As Example

8. Major: Linguistics Code: 60.22.02.40

9. Supervisors: Associate Professor, PhD Pham Ngoc Ham

10. Summary of the findings of the thesis:

-Classifier is the most important part in both Vietnamese and Chinese grammar system, occupies a lot of proportion in word class system and frequently employed.

-In this essay, the author quotes Yuan Huishe's Retired General and Yuan Guangshao's Lakeside and focuses on studying the classifier in Vietnamese to Chinese. It can be concluded that the use of classifier is very common since the times of basic statistics used in every original and translation.

-Next, the sentences including classifiers were classified into five types according to the statistical condition of classifiers used in the original and Chinese version. a, special situation (“个”in Chinese).b, there are classifiers in both the original and the translation. c, There are classifiers in the original, but not in the translation. d, There are classifiers in the translation, but not in the original. e, Mistakes in translation. Overall, these two works were chosen correctly and the mistakes are very few. (average below 1%)

-Literal and free translations were involved in these two works. Free translation includes similar meaning translation, no translation and the translation according to the background of target language. In other words, the translator skillfully finds the correspondent expresses methods according to the original meaning and combining the language habits of target language in order to deal with all kinds of occasions related to classifiers.

-Through studying and analyzing the translation of classifier from Vietnamese to Chinese in these two Vietnamese literature and combining the translation theories, we get some suggestions for Vietnamese and Chinese students who might need classifiers translation methods and inspire them how to embody the original language spirit and conform to the cultural background of target language while translating. Here are some suggestions. One is paying attention to negative transfer of first language. Second, mastering the importance and difficulties of classifiers. Third, teaching classifiers from the simple to the complex according to the learners' level and helping learners form a complete classifier system in order to use it under different occasions and improve teaching and communicating effectives.

11. Practical applicability, if any:

This paper obtained in translation rules of classifier and come up with the opinions and Suggestions in using of it. Especially make great difference in terms of translation rules and the quantification difference for Vietnamese and Chinese classifiers learners.
