10. Summary of thesis results:

Research results show that drug addicts have had positive changes when participating in community treatment in terms of physical and mental health, especially reducing drug use as well as limiting HIV infection and other infectious diseases due to sharing needles. However, most addicts encounter some difficulties in maintaining drug addiction treatment, side effects from using methadone replacement drugs, psychological problems affecting life and quality of treatment, addicts face stigma and have not received practical attention and support from the community and society. Therefore, addicts want to receive support in addiction treatment to successfully quit, solve psychological and physical problems that can lead to relapse and need to access other integration support services, such as: job support, economic support... At the same time, addicts clearly realize that the most important thing in giving up drugs is help from family and the addict himself. This is one of the decisive factors for researchers to propose methods to support addicts in addiction treatment through promoting the role and capacity of each individual addict in self-help group activities.

11. Practical application:

The research results of the thesis can be a useful reference for leaders at community-based addiction treatment facilities, especially Methadone treatment facilities, to consult, advise and build good addiction treatment support activities with the participation of social workers to solve difficulties and meet the needs of addicts. Thereby, it is possible to reduce the situation of drug re-use and drug-related evils.

12. Further research directions:

If possible, further research will be conducted to develop support models with the participation of social workers on a large scale to improve the effectiveness of drug addiction treatment for drug users.

11. Summary of the results of the thesis:

The study results show that drug users had positive changes when engaged in community treatment in both physical and mental aspects, especially the significant reduction of drug use as well as reduction of the risk for spreading HIV and other infectious diseases due to not sharing needles and syringes. However, the majority of people who depend on drugs are encountering some difficulties from maintaining of drug abstinence, from the side effects of methadone medication, from psychological that affects their lives and nature of treatment. They faced with discrimination and have not received the attention and practical support from the community and society. Therefore, they would like to receive the aid in the treatment of addiction to successfully stay abstinence from drugs such as solving psychological and physical problems, the risks of relapse and the need access to support services for social integration such as: employment assistance, economic support ... At the same time, people who depend on drugs realize the most important thing of giving up drugs is the help from the family and themselves. This is one of the decision factors for the researchers proposed methods of supporting people through addiction treatment and promoting the role and capacity of each individual person in active addiction self-help groups.

12. Ability to apply in practice:

The research results of the thesis can be useful references for leaders from community drug treatment centers, especially Methadone clinic leaders for consultation, advice and good constructive practical supports in addiction treatment with the involvement of social workers in order to assist for solving their problems and meet the needs during addiction treatment. Therefore, we can reduce the drug relapse and the negative consequences due to using drugs.

13. The following research directions:

If resources are available, further studies could be done to propose the support models with the participation of social workers on a large scale in order to improve the efficiency of drug treatment for drug users in such drug treatment facilities.
