10. Summary of the thesis results:
The research results show that parents, as the research subjects, used all three parenting styles: democratic, authoritarian, and liberal. Of these, the democratic style was the most prevalent, followed by the authoritarian style, and the liberal style was the least common. There was no statistically significant difference in parenting styles between parents within the same family. Families where parents had the same parenting style accounted for a low percentage. The parenting styles of fathers and mothers differed significantly in each area of family education. While mothers tended to use a democratic parenting style, fathers often used authoritarian and liberal styles towards their children.
Parents' parenting styles and their children's psychological development are positively correlated. According to parents themselves, those using an authoritarian parenting style tend to raise anxious, fearful, and shy children who are quite adept at personal hygiene and dressing. Conversely, parents using a democratic parenting style find their children to be confident, cheerful, sociable, and independent in their daily lives. Furthermore, data also shows that children who are "not yet capable of doing things independently" are mainly concentrated among those whose parents use a liberal parenting style. These children are generally more relaxed and free in all activities. While this can be seen as a favorable condition for a child's development, we believe that if this freedom and flexibility are not within any framework or limits, it may create adverse consequences for the child's socialization later in life.
Parents' parenting styles are influenced by specific factors such as occupation, family income, and the child's gender. Those working in law and politics tend to adopt an authoritarian parenting style and do not favor a more liberal approach. Meanwhile, those in the teaching profession are more approachable, friendly, and loving towards children, thus tending towards a more democratic parenting style. Only those in the business and civil service groups are more likely to favor a liberal parenting style compared to other groups.
Regarding income, most high-income parents choose an authoritarian parenting style. On the other hand, they also tend to use a liberal parenting style.
Furthermore, a child's gender significantly influences their parents' parenting styles. The majority of parents in this study tended to choose an authoritarian parenting style for their sons, hoping to instill discipline. Meanwhile, believing that girls are more self-disciplined and easier to manage, parents tended to opt for a more liberal parenting style for this group.
11. Practical applications:
The research findings of this thesis can serve as a useful resource for preschools, educational centers, and parents with children aged 3 to 6. Based on the research results, parents can see that in the process of educating their children, they should not completely neglect their children but also should not be too rigid. On the contrary, parents should create a comfortable and confident environment for their children to participate in activities, but within reasonable limits and boundaries. At the same time, parents need to proactively spend time with their children, sharing their thoughts and feelings to become closer to and understand them better.
12. Future research directions:
If possible, further research should be conducted on the influence of parental parenting styles on children's psychological development to help parents identify the parenting style that best suits their children, thereby improving the effectiveness of their educational efforts.
