10. Summary of the thesis results:

In the world as well as in Vietnam, the issue of synonyms and thesauruses has been of interest to researchers for quite some time. Thesauruses are a subcategory of explanatory dictionaries. The subject of study in these dictionaries is synonyms grouped into specific categories. Based on the thesauruses already published in Vietnam, we conducted a survey of the macro and microstructures of these dictionaries to initially assess the successes and limitations in the compilation of thesauruses in our country. Applying the theory of thesauruses, we examined the methods of establishing the structure of synonym sequences, the methods of explaining and finding semantic distinctions of synonyms, etc., in these dictionaries to clarify the specific criteria in selecting, collecting, arranging, and presenting the list of entries, the way information is incorporated into the microstructure, etc., by the compilers.

11. Practical applications:

For lexicography, our thesis will provide a comprehensive overview of the research and compilation of thesauruses in Vietnam to date. Given the current need to improve the quality of Vietnamese language teaching and learning, our research contributes to building a new direction in compiling thesauruses, aiming to enhance their role as convenient tools that enrich language use, making it easier for students to grasp the meaning and usage of words.

12. Future research directions:

Within the scope of this thesis, we primarily rely on surveying and analyzing the macro and micro structures of Vietnamese thesauruses to evaluate their successes and identify limitations that need to be addressed. From this initial research, we will define a new direction for compiling thesauruses.

10. Summary of results:

The issue on the synonym as well as the synonym dictionary has been paid attention for a long time all over the world and in Vietnam. The synonym dictionary is a subtype of the explanation dictionary. The research objects of synonym dictionaries are synonyms that are gathered according to the fixed groups. Based on the published synonym dictionaries in Vietnam, we have implemented to survey the macro and micro structures of the dictionaries in order to firstly give the considerations, evaluations about successions and limitations in compiling the synonym dictionary in Vietnam. Applying the theories about synonym dictionaries, we have implemented to consider the method of establishing the structure of synonym line, the method of explaining and out the differences in meaning between synonyms, etc. in dictionaries in order to show particular criteria in selecting, collecting, arranging and presenting the table of entries, the way of taking information into micro structure, etc. of the compilers.

11. Application into practice:

With respect to Lexicography, this Thesis will be a comprehensive “view” about research on compiling the synonym dictionaries in Vietnam. Before the demand of improving the quality of teaching and studying Vietnamese at present, our research will contribute to the establishment of a new way in compiling the synonym dictionaries, in order to improve their role as convenient tools to make usage of language more abundant, help pupils understand easily the meanings of words and the usage of words.

12. Research directions in the future:

In the limitations of the Thesis, we mainly base on the foundations of surveying, analyzing the micro and macro structures of Vietnamese synonym dictionaries to evaluate successions and limitations that need overcoming. From this first research, we will have a new direction for compiling the synonym dictionaries.
