In Laos, over the past 10 years, the phenomenon of young men and women living together before marriage has emerged and is frequently referred to as "cohabitation," with students being the largest group involved. Of course, not all young people agree with this trend. While called cohabitation, it is in reality a real life because these couples live together, eat together, share daily activities, and have sexual relations like married couples, although they have not registered their marriage or held a wedding ceremony to introduce themselves to their relatives.

Several studies on issues related to students' sexual awareness, attitudes, and behavior, the prevalence of premarital abortions among young women, and the knowledge of contraception among unmarried young men and women show that in just 0.22 seconds of searching on Google, there are 17,200,000 articles related to the issue of "cohabitation." Some places even organize forums to discuss cohabitation – whether it's advisable or not… This shows that cohabitation is indeed a hot topic among students and attracts the attention of many different groups.

For current students at the National University of Laos, their perceptions have changed significantly compared to previous generations, a change that is part of the broader context of economic, social, and cultural transformation in Laos in particular and the region in general.

Concepts of love, sex, and the relationship between love and sex, as well as students' views on cohabitation, have changed significantly compared to traditional values. Although Laotians previously had a very liberal view of romantic relationships, there were still certain limits to those relationships.

Students have gained a certain understanding and awareness of the current situation, causes, and consequences of cohabitation among students.

11. Practical applications: (if any)

This research aims to contribute to outlining the perceptions, understanding, and attitudes of Lao students regarding cohabitation among students today, providing administrators and policymakers with a more comprehensive view of this social phenomenon. The research findings can serve as a reference for individuals and organizations interested in studying student love and marriage.

12. Future research directions: Continue developing the topic to pursue doctoral studies.

13. Published works related to the thesis: None.
