With the desire to understand and contribute to improving the quality of short radio news reports in the VOV1 news program of the Voice of Vietnam Radio, the author has chosen the topic: Short radio news reports on VOV1 (Survey of the 6am, 12pm, and 6pm news programs on the VOV1 General Political News Channel in the first 6 months of 2015) for research in this thesis.
The author of this thesis presents the concept of short radio news reports in particular, the skills required for their production, and the criteria for determining the quality of such reports. Furthermore, based on theoretical foundations and practical experience, the author surveys and evaluates the current state of using short news reports in the news programs of the Voice of Vietnam (VOV1). Specifically, regarding content, the author examines the issues and fields reflected in short radio news reports. The author also investigates the form of short news reports, considering factors such as duration, language, tone, on-location sounds and witness testimonies, and music. From this, the author identifies the successes and limitations in the production and use of this type of report on radio broadcasts. Short news reports in the VOV1 news program of the Voice of Vietnam have concisely reflected newly emerging issues, addressed and resolved pressing social problems, and contributed to shaping public opinion. However, the topics of radio short reports are not diverse, the structure is simple, the interview subjects are not representative, the way reporters present themselves on air is monotonous, and they have not yet fully utilized the strengths of on-location audio language.

Based on practical experience from the author and the sharing of colleagues, the author boldly proposes several specific solutions such as: Selecting and finding topics; Building the structure of short news reports; Selecting details and characters; Increasing the use of background sound and on-location reporting in short radio news reports; Connecting and elevating news reports within a program. These solutions all aim to better serve the needs of listeners while attracting more listeners to radio, contributing to the successful fulfillment of the political mission of this type of journalism.

Wishing to learn about and contribute to improving the quality of short radio broadcasting reportages for the news program of VOV1, the author has selected “Short radio broadcasting reportages on VOV1 (Surveying News programs at 6am, 12pm, 6pm on the General Political News Programs of VOV1 in the first 6 months of 2015)” as the subject matter of this Thesis.
Especially, in this thesis, the author introduces the concept of short radio broadcasting reportages as well as the skills in implementing and the criteria for assessing a short radio broadcasting reportage as a quality work. In addition, based on my theoretical and practical grounds, the author conducted a survey and assessed the actual use of short reportages in the news programs of The Voice of Vietnam. In this regard, as for the content, the author studied the issues, areas reflected by radio short reportages. I also studied the form of short reportage works with the factors of: length of time, language, intonation, location sound, witness voice and music. From these, the author highlights the successes, limitations in the production and use of this form of reportage for radio broadcasting. Short radio reportage works that incorporate the news program of VOV1, The Voice of Vietnam represent in a quick and in good order the newly arising issues, deal with and solve the pressing problems in society thus helping orient social opinions. However, the topics of short radio reportages are not yet abundant, structure simple, interviewees not typical, reporter's way of presenting on the radio monotonous, not yet bringing strength of the language of location sound into play.
The general solutions in order to improve the quality of short radio broadcasting reportages in the news programs of The Voice of Vietnam as proposed in the thesis include: Improving the professional skills and stuff of reporters, editors; Innovating management mechanism, creating favorable conditions for broadcasting workers; Raising the role of radio broadcasting producers and paying more attention to the audiences as well… From personal practical experiences and in sharing with my colleagues', the author ventures to propose some particular solutions such as: Selecting and seeking topics; Building short reportage structure; Choosing details and characters; Intensifying the use of background sound and location of MCs in short radio reportage works; Linking and raising reportage works in a program to a new height. Solutions such as these are all aimed at better serving the audience need and attracting more audiences to radio programs, thus better fulfilling the political mission assigned to this form of press.
