10. Summary of the thesis results:

This thesis has researched and clarified three main contents: the basic factors affecting China-Myanmar relations during the period 2001-2015; the current state of China-Myanmar relations during the period 2001-2015; and the prospects for China-Myanmar relations up to 2020, along with some recommendations for Vietnam.

Based on an analysis of the fundamental factors affecting China-Myanmar relations from 2001 to 2015, such as the global and regional situation; the internal situation of each country; the history of relations between the two countries before 2001; and the competition for influence among major powers in Myanmar during this period, this thesis clarifies the China-Myanmar relationship from 2001 to 2015 in the fields of foreign policy; defense and security; economy; and socio-cultural affairs. The thesis forecasts the prospects for China-Myanmar relations up to 2020 and offers some recommendations for Vietnam in its relations with China and Myanmar.

While numerous studies and articles have been written about China and Myanmar in general, this thesis is a specific and comprehensive study of the China-Myanmar relationship during the period 2001-2015. The research findings possess profound theoretical and practical significance.

This thesis has provided useful, general, and comprehensive information on China-Myanmar relations from 2001 to 2015, thereby offering policy recommendations and lessons learned for Vietnam in its relations with China and Myanmar.

12. Future research directions:

Myanmar is still in the process of reform and transition to civilian rule. Under the leadership of the NLD party, the China-Myanmar relationship is expected to undergo many changes. The relationship between the two countries remains an interesting and topical subject of study.

10. Summary of the findings of the thesis:

In this thesis, I studied and clarified three main contents: the basic elements affecting the China – Myanmar relations during 2001 to 2015; the actual situation of the China – Myanmar relations during 2001 to 2015; prospects of the China – Myanmar relations by 2020 and some recommendations for Vietnam.

By analyzing the basic elements influencing the China – Myanmar relations during 2001 to 2015 such as the world and region situation, the internal situation of China and Myanmar; the history of the China – Myanmar relations before 2001 and the competition for influence between great nations in Myanmar in this period, the thesis clarifies the China – Myanmar relations at three fields: political and diplomatic relations; defense and security relations; economic and cultural relations. The thesis also forecasted prospects of the China – Myanmar relations by 2020 and gave some recommendations for Vietnam in the relations with China and Myanmar.

In general, there are many works and writings about China, Myanmar, but this thesis is the one that studied concretely and synthetically the China – Myanmar relations during 2001 to 2015. Its research results have both theoretical and practical contributions.

This thesis provided with useful, general and all-sided informations about the China – Myanmar relations during 2001 to 2015, gave recommendations of policy and experience lessons for Vietnam in the relations with China and Myanmar.

12. Further research directions, if any:

Myanmar is still in the stage of reform and change into civil regime. Under the leadership of the NLD Party, the China – Myanmar relations are forecast to have many changes. The relations between China and Myanmar will be an interesting and topical resarch subject.
