The thesis has studied and generalized theoretical basis, legal mechanisms and experience of the archival storage work in general, document collection and supplementation of some countries in the world in particular, especially Vietnam. On such basis, the author has drawn several experience lessons to apply to the archival storage work, select properly and apply creatively to the real situation of the archive sector of Laos. The author has investigated the actual status of the document collection and supplement to the Archival Storage under the Lao National Archives Department and III National Archives Center of Vietnam to consider it as the comparable subject, basing on that, suggested a number of feasible solutions, proposals and recommendations in order to build, direct and organize the implementation of archives collection at the Lao National Archives Department.

Chapter 1: The theoretical basis; legal mechanisms on the archive collection and supplementation

In the chapter 1, the author has systemized the theoretical basis, legal mechanisms of some countries on the document collection and supplementation in to the archives, especially in Vietnam, to select and apply such experience to the archive collection and supplementation of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The research findings are foundations for us to give advises to the Archives Department of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in establishing and issuing documents and regulations guiding the archives collection.

Chapter 2: The actual situation of document collection into the archival storage under the Lao National Archives Department.

In the chapter 2, the author has investigated the situation of document collection into the Archival Storage under the Lao National Archives Department (The Central Archival Storage), investigated the situation in the Ministerial agencies of Laos, in which focusing on the process of collecting quantity, document components, document quality which have been stored at the Lao National Archives Department, the advantages and disadvantages in the collection process.

Chapter 3:Solutions for collecting documents into the Archival storage under the Lao National Archives Department.

In chapter 3, the author has studied and suggested highly effective and feasible solutions for archives collection for the Lao National Archives Department, pointed out server recommendations, options and applied appropriately experience of Vietnam to the actual condition of Laos.

The research findings are foundations for us to give advises to the National Archives Department of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in establishing and issuing documents and regulations guiding the archives collection. They also become the reference document for studying and research of specialized trainees and students and people in charge of archival storage work in the Lao People's Democratic Republic in general and  Lao National Archives Department in particular.
