10. Summary of the thesis results:
This thesis focuses on clarifying the EU-US security and defense relationship during the period 2009-2021, identifying influencing factors and the current state of cooperation. It then highlights the changes in this relationship under US Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump. Based on this, it provides an overall assessment of the EU-US security and defense relationship (2009-2021) and forecasts future trends.
Between 2009 and 2021, EU-US security and defense relations experienced periods of both highs and lows due to differing foreign and security policies between US Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump. Meanwhile, the EU promoted the implementation of the CSDP with the determination to enhance its defense autonomy and develop security institutions reflecting EU political identity. Nevertheless, the impact of the regional and global context, including the rise of China, the threat of terrorism, Iran's nuclear program, and especially the security threat from Russia, maintained the "flow" of EU-US security and defense cooperation.
Despite numerous challenges, particularly strategic mistrust, transatlantic security and defense relations are likely to continue to be strengthened and promoted in the future based on shared strategic interests. Specifically, the Russia-Ukraine military conflict not only highlights security and defense gaps in the EU that are unlikely to be quickly addressed, reaffirming the crucial security role of the US and NATO for the EU, but is also driving pivotal changes in the global landscape. This necessitates a closer alliance between the US and the EU, especially in the security and defense sector.
11. Practical applications: Based on the analysis, assessment, and forecasts of EU-US security and defense relations, several suggestions can be drawn regarding Vietnam's foreign policy towards its two leading partners, the US and the EU, particularly concerning EU-US coordination and cooperation to compete for influence with Russia and China in the European and Indo-Pacific regions in the coming period.

11. Summary of the findings of the thesis:
The thesis clarifies the EU-US security-defense relations during the period from 2009 to 2021, focusing on impacting factors and cooperation between the two partners to highlight changes in the relations under the presidencies of Barrack Obama and Donald Trump. Based on those analyses, overall assessments of the EU-US security-defense relations (2009-2021) and predictions about future trends are drawn out.
During the 2009-2021 period, the EU-US security-defense ties undergo certain rises and falls due to differences in foreign and security policies of the US President Barrack Obama and Donald Trump. Meanwhile, EU promotes its CSD, bearing in mind a determination to maintain its defense self-control, develop security regimes with EU's characteristics. Nevertheless, impacts of international and regional situation, including the strong rise of China, terrorist threats, Iran's nuclear program and mostly security threats from Russia, have maintained “mainstream” in the EU-US security-defense cooperation.
Despite challenges, especially strategic suspensions, this trans-Atlantic security-defense cooperation is likely to be strengthened and promoted in the future thank to similarities in strategic interests. In particular, the Russia-Ukraine military conflicts have not only shown the EU's security-defense gaps, which are unlikely to be covered soon; reconfirmed the important role of the US and NATO to the EU's security, but also led to a turning point in the world's situation. Therefore, the US and the EU have to tighten their traditional alliance, especially in terms of security and defence.
12. Practical applicability, if any: Based on analyses, assessments and forecasts about the EU-US security-defense relations, several foreign policy recommendations can be drawn out for Vietnam to deal with its 2 top partners, the EU and the US, especially given the coordination and cooperation between the EU and the US to compete with Russia and China for influence in the Indo-Pacific in the future.
