From studying the semantic diversity of the word "epiphany" in religion and literature and art, the thesis comes to the assertion: the term "epiphany" inDublinersmeans “enlightenment”. It is a spiritual, cognitive, or spiritual awakening, a sudden understanding or discovery of the nature or meaning of something or someone. The overarching theme of “enlightenment” inDublinersIt is the state of paralysis and stagnation of the characters that has no way out. The "enlightenment" is the basis for the content of Joyce's short stories, not the plot element.

The thesis points out and analyzes three main "enlightenment" motifs: "enlightenment" about "ego", "enlightenment" about nation, "enlightenment" about religion.
Chapter 3: The Art of Building “Awakening” in Dubliners
The circular labyrinth shape and the autumn and winter colors of Dublin are one of the aspects that help readers “awaken” to the paralyzed state of Dublin society. The circular labyrinth shape is created from the dark time, from the space of Dublin’s winding streets; from the repetitive nature of human activities; from the unrealizable desires and aspirations of the characters...
The collision of vision and hearing is the mechanism that helps the character have precious moments of "enlightenment" in his paralyzed life.
The story contains a number of sound symbols, windows, pictures, photographs and mirrors that help the characters and readers achieve “enlightenment”.
The thesis is one of the research directions on content and artistic value inDublinersby Joyce.
