10. Summary of the thesis results:
Depression is a mental health problem that is becoming increasingly common in modern society. Anyone of any age is at risk of developing depression. Individuals with gender identity issues that are inconsistent with their body are at even higher risk due to gender frustrations and/or unfavorable family and social environments that hinder self-expression.
This thesis studies a case of an adolescent exhibiting gender identity-related depression who received cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) combined with mindfulness therapy.
The results after the intervention showed improvements in the client's depressive symptoms, functional activities, and academic performance. The client also learned how to self-monitor and recognize negative thoughts, restructuring their perceptions in a more positive direction. These results demonstrate and reinforce the effectiveness of the Cognitive-Behavioral intervention combined with Mindfulness for gender identity-related depression.
