10. Summary of the results of the thesis:
Masturbation is a mechanism for patients to relieve stress and pressure in life. Gradually, patients have abused masturbation more and more (sometimes up to 10 times/day).
Turning to masturbation to relieve stress and pressure will be a benefit, however, the abuse of masturbation has led to clear symptoms of depression such as: the patient feels guilty, feels disgusting, the patient isolates himself from social relationships, does not like to communicate, the patient loses all interest in activities he used to love. And the patient also prepares a suicide plan.
The effectiveness of applying CBT therapy in this clinical case has brought positive results: The client shared the problems from his childhood and the impacts of his current life that caused him stress and anxiety. The client also named his emotions, explained why suicidal thoughts came and where his masturbation originated from and the benefits and harms of masturbation to himself at present. After the first stage, the client rebuilt his lifestyle, thought positively, and evoked his own values. The client was more comfortable with himself, happy and actively worked to reduce his negative thoughts. Symptoms of insomnia, irritability, masturbation, feeling guilty and suicidal thoughts were significantly reduced. The client was trained to role-play situations that would cause stress, and how the client would respond in stressful situations.
Support from the client's family is a long-term and continuous support not only for the client but also for the psychologist who is in the process of supporting the client. The trust and coordination between the family and the psychologist has helped the psychologist to delve deeper and explore the hidden corners of the client's soul. From there, they can work with the client to build a treatment plan that is not only suitable for the client but also has a unified combination of support sources.
11. Practical application:
With the results obtained from the theoretical and practical research process on a clinical case, the thesis presented an overview of a clinical case related to the effectiveness of using CBT therapy in psychological intervention for depressed patients - with masturbation behavior. Within the framework of this clinical case, the author recognized the importance of applying CBT therapy to improve masturbation behavior, reduce depressive symptoms and improve relationships with mothers, fathers and improve communication with friends.
