- Chapter 1 of the thesis focuses on clarifying the concept of competition in international relations, thereby defining a framework for analyzing competition as a theoretical basis. This framework includes aspects that need to be analyzed when studying the influencing factors, current situation, and mechanisms of the competition between these two major powers in the Asia-Pacific region. Also in Chapter 1, the thesis focuses on clarifying both internal and external factors influencing the competition between China and Japan in the Mekong sub-region from 1992 to 2022.
Based on the analytical framework defined in Chapter 1, this thesis focuses on clarifying the comprehensive competition between China and Japan in the Mekong sub-region from 1992 to 2022 across four key areas: political diplomacy, economics, national security and defense, and culture and education.
- Based on the current situation and impacts identified, the thesis forecasts the trend of China-Japan competition in the Mekong sub-region up to 2030 and proposes policy recommendations for Vietnam.
- This thesis contributes to the study of competition between China and Japan in the Mekong sub-region, supplementing and updating existing research on this issue from both academic and practical perspectives.
