Summary of thesis results: During the resistance war against French colonialism (1945-1954), the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) continuously sought all sources of external support, focusing on gaining support from neighboring countries and major powers. Gaining support from major powers, the DRV repeatedly adjusted its domestic and foreign policies. However, internal strength was considered the main resource, so the DRV always made every effort to mobilize national strength for this resistance war. This mobilization policy brought the Vietnamese people much support and sympathy from international friends; it helped the DRV avoid simultaneously confronting multiple enemies in the years before 1950 and, from 1950 onwards, break the encirclement, gain support from countries in the socialist bloc, and successfully conclude the resistance war in 1954.

Summary of the findings of the thesis: History of Vietnam during the years 1945-1954 witnesses the Democratic Republic of Vietnam's (DRV) a tireless effort to gain support from whoever ouside, especially neighbors and big countries, for the war against French colonialist. To get support from powers, the DRV had to adjust its domestic and foreign policies for several times. However, it is the national resource not the outside support was considered as the main source to wage this war and the DRV had tried its best to rally support from its people. As a result, the DRV gained a lot of support during this war and was succeeded in avoiding fighting more than one enemy before 1950; and since 1950, that support also helped the DRV receive reconigtions and assistance from the Soviet bloc, especially from People's Republic of China (PRC) and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). With the help from the Soviet bloc, the DRV had a new strength to win the war by 1954.
