- "The Diocese of Western Tonkin in the political and social relationship of the 19th century" studies the relationship between the diocese and political and social issues in Vietnam during a turbulent historical period.

- The topic is a good study that has significance in contributing to clarifying the attitudes and behaviors of the Bishops leading the diocese with the current political and social situation.

- Based on archival sources, especially works and research projects on Vietnamese Catholicism. The thesis initially provides explanations on the attitudes and behaviors of Bishops in particular and Western Tonkin Catholics in general towards political and social issues.

- They did not stand aside nor actively assist the French colonialists, but always maintained a conciliatory attitude. Therefore, when the royal court issued edicts banning religion, then proceeded to arrest and kill Christians, attack and oppress Catholics. Christians and priests only dared to resist with resignation, but did not rise up and use weapons to oppose.

- In exceptional cases, there were still Christians who were drawn into the uprisings. There were bishops of the diocese who directly and actively advised the colonial government in the second invasion of Tonkin and the pacification of Tonkin.

- Social volunteer activities such as opening schools, nursing homes, hospitals, orphanages... and close relationships with other religions have contributed to creating equal social relationships in a turbulent historical context.

11. The thesis has reference value and enriches the research on dioceses in general and the Western Diocese of Dang Ngoai in particular in the political and social relationship in the 19th century. Thereby contributing to the construction and adjustment of religious solidarity policies of Hanoi city.
