This thesis examines the characteristics of the use of comparative devices in the Vietnamese poetry collection "Homeland" (by multiple authors), relating it to the Lao language to further clarify the artistic values of this device in conveying and expressing the authors' intended content, while also highlighting the unique beauty of each country's language. Below are the main conclusions drawn from the research findings of this thesis:
Considering the morphological-structural characteristics of the word to be compared (A). In terms of word class, A can be a lexical unit (usually a noun), or it can be a phrase or a sub-phrase.
The structural and morphological characteristics of the element reflect the comparative relationship.
The structural-morphological characteristics of the element being compared (B). Similar to the structural-morphological characteristics of the element to be compared (A), the element being compared (B) is divided into a lexical unit or a phrase.
In the process of writing this thesis to understand the characteristics of the use of comparative devices in the Vietnamese poetry collection "Homeland" (by multiple authors), we contacted several Lao poems that also use comparative devices to further clarify the artistic value of this device in conveying and expressing the authors' intended content, while also highlighting the unique beauty of each country's language. Through our survey, we found that most poems are written in the form A+tss+B, meaning they lack a comparative aspect. This is also the type of comparison most frequently used by Vietnamese authors in their works.
11. Practical applications: The research results can be applied in teaching Vietnamese to Lao speakers, or Lao to Vietnamese speakers.
12. Further research directions: Expand the scope of research to include comparisons between Lao poems related to homeland and Vietnamese poetry.
13. Published works related to the thesis: None
