10. Summary of thesis results:
The thesis has surveyed the conversational language appearing in 13 Vietnamese teaching materials for foreigners that have been practically and popularly used from 1999 to the present at the Intermediate level. This is one of the first practical applied studies with a relatively comprehensive scale on conversational language in Vietnamese teaching materials as a foreign language at this level of language competence.
Through specific surveys, the thesis has clarified some quantitative characteristics as well as conversational language characteristics in some aspects such as: utterances according to speaking purposes, speech acts and some linguistic-cultural characteristics.
Based on the survey results, the thesis has made some discussions from the perspective of building Vietnamese communication skills for foreign learners at the intermediate level as well as the compatibility of existing documents with the newly issued Vietnamese Proficiency Assessment Framework (2018).
The thesis also attempts to make some proposals/suggestions towards improving the design of conversational language in Vietnamese teaching materials to be more suitable and effective for teaching and assessment purposes.
11. Practical applicability: Conversational language is one of the important contents in the process of building capacity and communication skills for learners. Therefore, the results of the thesis have reference value and suggestions for building learning materials, teaching and learning Vietnamese as a foreign language and at the same time serving the work of testing and assessing Vietnamese proficiency more professionally.
