In Lao and 779 idioms evaluating people in Vietnamese we found the following:
1. Idioms evaluating people in Lao and Vietnamese have similarities and differences in structural characteristics, both are composed of 3 or more syllables, have an even number of syllables, and form 2 complete symmetrical clauses. However, idioms in the 2 languages have differences in the number of tones, in Vietnamese there are 6 tones, in Lao there are only 5, there is a difference in the ratio of using the number of syllables, in grammatical structure, Vietnamese idioms only have 1 to 2 clauses, while Lao idioms have in addition to 1 or 2 clauses, many clauses.
2. Idioms evaluating people in Lao and Vietnamese have similarities and differences in semantic characteristics. In both languages, idioms have two layers of meaning including figurative and literal meanings. The themes of evaluating people in Lao and Vietnamese idioms focus on similar contents such as advice, education, praise - criticism, ridicule, criticism, affirming the beauty of people... The differences in semantics, Lao idioms include literal and figurative meanings, in which figurative meanings account for a larger number than literal meanings; different in the choice of expressive images, comparisons and in the way of expression, Vietnamese idioms use indirect expressions, while Lao idioms use direct expressions.
3. The structural similarities are due to the typological characteristics of the two languages, which are both analytical and have tones, while the similarities in idiomatic meanings are due to cultural similarities. There are also cultural differences due to different symbols, and there are different concepts between the two peoples.
11. Practical applicability: The research results can be applied in teaching Vietnamese to Lao people, or Lao to Vietnamese people.
12. Further research directions: Expanding the scope of research on cultural language issues in the two languages Lao and Vietnamese.
