10. Summary of the thesis results:
Personal archives are a part of the Vietnam National Archives. Personal archives are usually established for prominent and exemplary individuals active in various fields of social life. Currently, nearly 70 personal archives are being preserved at the National Archives Center III.
Documents in personal archives are of immense value and significance. They serve as an important source of historical data for studying the lives and revolutionary careers, scientific activities, and artistic creations of prominent individuals; they provide material for compiling anthologies (for personal documents in the field of literature), serve as exhibits at seminars and conferences, and meet the research needs of scientists. Despite the immense value and significance of personal archives, understanding and exploiting their value, especially their historical value, remains very limited.
In conducting the research project: “Studying the value and purpose of exploiting and using documents in personal archives at the National Archives Center III”, we focused on surveying and researching the following issues:
- To learn about and research the lives and careers of prominent individuals;
- Survey and study the composition, content, and characteristics of documents in these personal archives;
- Learn about the value and purpose of accessing and using the documents in these private archives.
Through this topic, we aim to introduce and affirm the value and purpose of exploiting and using documents in personal archives. At the same time, we will explore the shortcomings and limitations in exploiting and using this body of documents; and from there, offer some suggestions to enhance and promote the value of personal archival documents.
11. Practical applications:
The research findings of this project are a product that can be applied to managing, organizing, and utilizing documents in personal archives at the National Archives Center. At the same time, it can also be used as a reference and research material for lecturers and students in archival studies; scientists; and readers who need to access documents in personal archives.

10. Summary of results of the thesis:
Personal archives are part of the National Archives of Vietnam. Personal archives are usually established for typical figures, especially in social aspects. At present, nearly 70 personal archives are being kept at the National Archives Center of Vietnam No 3.
The files in Personal Archives hold a great deal of value and significance. They are an important source of historical materials to study the life, operational, revolution, scientific, art-composing activities of typical figures; provide materials for the building of volumes (for personal archives in literature); serve the exhibition of materials for seminars, conferences or the studying needs of scientists... Although personal archives are invaluable and important, the study and exploitation of their benefits, especially of historical values, are limited.
Doing the research named “The Study of the Values and Exploitation Purposes of Files in Personal Archives at the National Archives Center of Vietnam No 3”, we focus on studying and analyzing below points:
- Studying and analyzing the lives and careers of typical figures;
- Studying and analyzing the components, contents and material features in these personal archives;
- Studying the values, exploitation purposes and uses of these personal archives.
By doing the research, we would like to introduce and confirm the values and the purposes of material uses in personal archives. Furthermore, we also study the problems and limitations arising out of the use and exploitation of these archives and then make some recommendations to improve and enhance the values of personal archives.
11. Practical application:
The study results may be applied in the management, organization and exploitation of files in personal archives at the National Archives Center. At the same time, they may also be used as references by tutors and students studying in archival studies or by scientists and readers interested in the use of materials in personal archives.
