10. Summary of the thesis results:

This thesis is a survey of the world of characters in Kim Lân's short stories. The research results are hoped to provide a comprehensive and complete overview of the world of characters in Kim Lân's short stories, thereby affirming Kim Lân's position and role in the development of modern Vietnamese short stories in particular and modern Vietnamese literature in general.

This thesis explores his artistic concepts in several aspects, such as his conception of humanity, his conception of beauty, and his conception of writing. Through this, it affirms that Kim Lân was a writer with progressive artistic concepts, abundant creativity, and a firm position in the national literary scene.

Furthermore, the thesis delves into the study of the world of characters in Kim Lân's short stories, focusing on prominent character types such as: the "leftover" character, the character embodying the spirit of the homeland, and the character with latent vitality. His world of characters is diverse and extremely simple; it is always close to each of us. In any circumstance, his characters are connected to their work, placed within their daily lives, and deeply attached to people, to their homeland. Kim Lân wrote with a very simple intention, as literary scholar Trần Hữu Tá remarked:Kim Lân viewed writing as a way of demanding his own dignity, a place for himself in the small, confined life of his homeland."

Besides his success in character development, Kim Lân also excelled in employing outstanding artistic techniques: describing the characters' psychology, appearance, and actions. Furthermore, the language in Kim Lân's works is also distinctive; his writings feature many colloquial, simple words that are rich in expressiveness and relatable to the reader.

The thesis is the process of leaning about the world of characters in short stories of Kim Lan. We hope that the research findings of thesis will bring about a general and sufficient view on the world of characters in short stories of Kim Lan, and then it confirms the position and also role of Kim Lan for developing the modern short stories of Vietnam in particular and the modern literature of Vietnam in general.

The thesis studies his art options in several fields, such as: opinion on human opinion, opinion on beauty, opinion on being a writer. And then, it can confirm that Kim Lan is a writer who has a progressive view of art, abundant creativity and stable position in the national literary circles.

In addition, the thesis also goes deep into researching the world of characters in short stories of Kim Lan with outstanding character styles, such as: “fag-end” characters, characters with soul of native place and characters with potential vitality. To achieve this success, the writer has used several outstanding art methods: describing mentality of character, describing physical appearance and actions of character. Besides the success of building characters, Kim Lan succeeds in using language. There are many popular words with much expressiveness in his works.
