11. Summary of the thesis results:

In this thesis, we conduct a study of customary texts written in Chinese characters in 63 villages of the former Yen Lang prefecture – present-day Me Linh district, under the code AFa7/6.– AFa7/18 was collected by the French School of Far Eastern Studies (EFEO) in 1920 and is currently stored at the Republic of Vietnam Archive. The thesis has 3 chapters:

- Chapter 1: Overview of Yen Lang Prefecture and its customary documents

- Chapter 2: Characteristics of the customary texts of Yen Lang district

- Chapter 3: The Value of Customary Texts in Yen Lang District

Novelty of the thesis: (1) For the first time, a survey of all customary texts in Chinese characters of Yen Lang prefecture was conducted in terms of form and content, and a list of customs of all villages and communes in the prefecture was compiled; (2) Reflects many aspects of the activities of the people of Yen Lang prefecture in the past, especially information on agricultural promotion, education promotion and the eradication of social evils; (3) The materials in the thesis contribute to the basis for building new village regulations of the people of Me Linh district today.

12. Practical applications:

It serves as a primary source of information for compiling the geographical history of Me Linh district as well as of the villages and communes within the district.

13. Future research directions:

Continue research on the customs of Dong Anh district – that is, the remaining customary documents of the former Phuc Yen province.

10. Summary of the findings of the thesis:

In this thesis, we have researched on traditional custom documents of 63 villages of the ancient Yen Lang district (Me Linh district now). They are under the code AFa7/6 to AFa7/18 and were collected by the Far East School (EFEO) in 1920, now currently preserved in the Institute of Sino-Nom Studies. The thesis has 3 chapters:

Chapter 1: Overview of Yen Lang District and Yen Lang's traditional custom documents

Chapter 2: Characteristics of Yen Lang's traditional custom documents

Chapter 3: The value of Yen Lang's traditional custom documents

3 new features of the thesis: (1) The first examination of the entire Han script of the Yen Lang's traditional custom documents in terms of form and content, and a list of the traditional village in the district. (2) Reflecting many aspects of Yen Lang people in the past, especially information on agricultural encouragement, study promotion and the elimination of social evils; (3) The material in the thesis contributes to the development of the new convention of Me Linh people today.

This thesis will become the original source for the compilation of Me Linh district as well as the villages in the district.

12. Further research directions:

Continuing to research on the traditional custom documents of Dong Anh district, as well as the rest of the traditional custom documents of the old Phuc Yen province.
