10. Summary of the thesis results:
Over the past decade, many people from several provinces in Northern and Central Vietnam have illegally migrated to the UK through human trafficking rings, hoping for quick riches. Upon returning to Vietnam, they face numerous difficulties in reintegration, particularly the burden of debt. However, there is still a lack of appropriate and accessible reintegration support services for these individuals. Re-evaluating and supplementing existing services is necessary, drawing on various approaches, including a social work perspective. Accordingly, cumbersome procedures in receiving and verifying cases of human trafficking victims need to be streamlined; and illegal migrants should be viewed as victims of human trafficking rings and labor exploitation, rather than as migrant criminals. Support services should be tailored to the needs, circumstances, and capabilities of returning migrants. In particular, the participation of returning migrants is essential in developing reintegration plans, especially in providing support for vocational training, job placement, and access to loans for production and business.
11. Practical applications:
This research could serve as a basis for developing interventions to support the reintegration of undocumented migrants returning to the UK and to prevent illegal migration (and re-migration). Furthermore, this research could also be applied to anti-trafficking programs in general.
12. Future research directions:
Develop appropriate reintegration models for returning undocumented migrants.
