10. Summary of thesis results:
In the past 10 years, many people from some northern and central provinces have illegally migrated to the UK through illegal human trafficking networks with the dream of getting rich quickly. When returning to Vietnam, they have faced many difficulties in the reintegration process, especially the burden of debt. However, there are still no suitable and accessible reintegration support services for these people. Re-evaluating services and adding new services is necessary from different approaches, including the perspective of social work. Accordingly, it is necessary to reduce cumbersome procedures in receiving and verifying cases of victims of human trafficking; and it is necessary to view illegal migrants as victims of illegal human trafficking and labor exploitation instead of as immigration criminals. Support services need to be based on the needs, circumstances and capabilities of returning migrants. In particular, it is necessary to have the participation of returning migrants in developing reintegration plans, especially support in vocational training, job referrals and loans for production and business.
11. Practical application:
This research can inform interventions to support the reintegration of irregular migrants returning to the UK and to prevent irregular migration (and re-migration). In addition, this research can also be applied to general anti-trafficking programmes.
12. Further research directions:
Building a suitable reintegration model for returning illegal migrants.
