10. Summary of thesis results:
The thesis has clarified three main conflicts in the relationship between Japan and China from the end of the Cold War to 2012. These are conflicts originating from history, the dispute over the Senkaku Islands (as called by Japan) and Diaoyu Islands (as called by China), and the competition for power in the East Asian region. In the section on the competition for power in the East Asian region between the two countries, many issues have been mentioned such as the competition for influence and position between China and Japan in the Southeast Asian region, the dispute over the Taiwan issue, security - defense and Japan becoming a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
After the Cold War, the world situation has changed a lot. East Asia has become the focus of the world's attention, in which Japan and China are the two countries that receive the most attention. The relationship between these two countries has had ups and downs, directly or indirectly affecting the regional and world situation. In particular, in recent times, the situation in East Asia in general and Northeast Asia in particular has had many complicated developments. Conflicts between countries, especially major countries, are the most important cause threatening peace and security in the region.
The two countries normalized relations in 1972. After more than 40 years, this relationship still has many unresolved issues. These are two countries with both economic and military potential, among the largest countries in the world. Therefore, these controversial issues between China and Japan not only affect the relationship between the two countries, but also affect international relations in the region and even affect international relations on a global scale. Studying the contradictions in the relationship between Japan and China and predicting the possibility of resolving these contradictions has profound scientific and practical significance.
This thesis focuses on researching and analyzing the contradictions in the relationship between Japan and China from after the Cold War to 2012. These contradictions are barriers that make it difficult for the two countries to establish a good and long-term relationship. At the same time, the controversial issues between Japan and China have, are and will continue to negatively affect the relationship between the two countries in many areas and have a significant impact on other countries in the region.
If we separate each country, we can see that both China and Japan are holding a great economic and military power, capable of dominating the situation in Northeast Asia at the present time. Therefore, the relationship between Japan and China directly affects the Northeast Asia region and has a significant impact on the Southeast Asia region, including Vietnam. In addition, these two countries are also competing strongly for influence in the Southeast Asia region. Analyzing the contradictions in the relationship between the two countries and the competition for influence between the two countries in Southeast Asia can help us better understand the future policy orientation of each country towards the Southeast Asia region in general and Vietnam in particular. From there, Vietnam can come up with the most suitable foreign policy towards Japan and China at the present time.
12.Further research directions:
The conflicts in the relationship between China and Japan are expected to continue in the coming years. Therefore, research on the relationship and conflicts between the two countries in the coming time will be one of the directions that can be continued to research. In addition, the competition for influence between Japan and China in Southeast Asia in particular and East Asia in general is also a topic that can be studied more deeply in the coming time.
