The Vietnam - Russia relationship is a long-standing traditional relationship that has gone through various ups and downs. Entering the early 21st century, the world political situation has many fluctuations, forcing each country to change its foreign policy accordingly. Vietnam and the Russian Federation are no exception to that rule.
After President Putin came to power, he implemented a policy of multilateralization and diversification in foreign relations. Due to the failures of its pro-Western policy, Russia implemented an eastward policy to balance its power in the Asia-Pacific region. In this strategy, Vietnam has a particularly important role and position for the Russian Federation due to its geopolitical and geo-economic position, and Vietnam's position in ASEAN. Vietnam is a bridge for Russia to enter Southeast Asia.
The thesis also reviews important historical milestones in the relationship between the two countries and the great achievements that the two countries have achieved in the fields of politics and security - defense in nearly two decades of the 21st century through a series of visits by leaders of the two states, governments and ministries and branches along with important documents signed between the two countries in the above two fields.
The thesis also analyzes the advantages and difficulties and forecasts the prospects of this relationship until 2030 and proposes a number of solutions to strengthen the Vietnam - Russia relationship in the above two areas.
