First-year students adapt more highly to social relationships than to psychological adaptation. There is a strong and positive correlation between psychological and social adaptation, and between these two aspects of socio-psychological adaptation in first-year students. Furthermore, the research results show that: the role of teachers; financial support and learning resources; and the characteristics of living near or far from family are the factors that most strongly influence the socio-psychological adaptation of both low- and high-adaptation groups of students. Based on the current situation and factors affecting the psychosocial adaptation of first-year students at Hai Phong University, this study proposes several measures to help first-year students achieve a higher level of psychosocial adaptation.
