Summary of thesis results: - First, the thesis provides a new perspective on the current classification of journals in Vietnam, proposing a new classification method according to two main categories: specialized/internal journals and entertainment/guide journals. Among them, the entertainment and informational magazine genre has only truly flourished in the last decade or so, starting with the official launch of the Young Fashion magazine in 1993. Aimed at serving specific audiences with particular information needs, such as fashion, health, media, sports, science and technology, entertainment and informational magazines have significantly increased in number. Alongside this, their content and format have also undergone many innovations and modernizations, meeting the ever-changing demands of their audience. However, due to their young age and development within the context of strong globalization and internationalization, this nascent genre is heavily influenced by foreign entertainment and informational magazines. This influence is especially profound for entertainment and informational magazines specializing in media – the subject we have chosen for our study. - This thesis analyzes the development trends of magazines worldwide and in Vietnam. Through this, we assess the impact of these trends on the development of entertainment and guidance magazines. In addition, the thesis proposes and evaluates a new concept of entertainment and guidance magazines from a systems perspective through key elements: Political power, Founders, Journalists, Works, Information channels, Audience, and Social organizations. The current landscape of entertainment and guidance magazines in general, and those specializing in media in particular, is also outlined in detail in each country and region. - The thesis researches and surveys the current state of the influence of foreign entertainment and guidance magazines on similar magazines in Vietnam in two aspects: content and form. Regarding content, this impact occurs in four areas: the organization of special sections and columns; the way of constructing special topics and featured articles; and the translation of works from foreign sources. In terms of form, the influence of foreign entertainment and guidance magazines is widespread across design, presentation, language, genre, and non-textual language. This thesis assesses the influence of foreign entertainment and guidance magazines on similar magazines in Vietnam, examining both positive and negative aspects. This comprehensive and systematic influence of foreign entertainment and guidance magazines on domestic magazines of the same type leads to urgent theoretical issues that need to be addressed in Chapter 3: effectively inheriting foreign elements while developing the unique characteristics of Vietnamese entertainment and guidance magazines; the necessity of establishing a system of criteria for Vietnamese entertainment and guidance magazines; and the timely recognition of genre innovation in Vietnamese entertainment and guidance magazines. The impact of foreign entertainment and lifestyle magazines on other magazines, journals, and supplements in Vietnam, and the innovation within newspaper and magazine editorial offices. Furthermore, we propose solutions to improve the quality of domestic entertainment magazines in the context of being influenced by similar foreign magazines from three perspectives: press management agencies, press agencies, and the team of reporters and editors. 11. Practical application: - The thesis provides a comprehensive and systematic view of the development of entertainment and lifestyle magazines in Vietnam: from trends, the impact of foreign factors, appearance, to concepts and characteristics. This helps managers and relevant agencies in shaping, building, and developing entertainment and lifestyle magazines in Vietnam. - The theoretical issues raised in the thesis are highly practical, contributing to the development of entertainment and guide magazines with a distinct Vietnamese identity, as well as innovating the operations of current newspaper and magazine editorial offices. - The thesis has proposed several highly feasible solutions to improve the quality and effectiveness of Vietnamese entertainment and guide magazines. 12. Summary of the findings of the thesis: (Summarize them with stress on the new findings, if any) - Firstly, the thesis has introduced a new magazine classification in Vietnam, including 2 main trends: the professional and internal magazine trend and the instruction and entertainment magazine trend. The last trend has been developing strongly since Thoi Trang Tre magazine was published in 1993. With an aim to serve the information demand of non – mass media public on fashion, health, transports, sports, scientific techonology…, this trend has increased impressively in numbers, besides, its contents and forms have been also innovated modernly to fit with the development of public' demand. On the other hand, due to its young age as well as the effect of globalization and internationalization, the Vietnam's instruction and entertainment magazine trend has been strongly affected by foreign's one. Especially for transport instruction and entertainment magazines, which are chosen to reseach, this influence is more and more powerful. - The thesis has concluded and analyzed the development trends of magazine in the world and Vietnam. Then, we have appropriated the impact of these trends on the development of the instruction and entertainment magazine trend. Furthermore, we have both introduced and adopted a new concept of the instruction and entertainment magazine trend, following system attitude. We have also outlined a comprehensive picture of the instruction and entertainment magazine as well as transport instruction and entertainment magazines in several countries. - The thesis has studied and investigated the situation of this influence in two faces: contents and forms. For contents, the impact has been on the following 4 concerns: the organization specializes in site; the building of major subjects and articles; the compiled articles. For forms, designs and layout, language, genres and tables, charts, pies and so on have been greatly influenced. - The thesis has assessed the situation of this influence in both active and negative sides, which leads to essential thoerial issues such as inheriting foreign's factors effectively on the basis of developing own characteristics of Vietnam's instruction and entertainment magazines; building new critaria for Vietnam's instruction and entertainment magazine; changing genres on Vietnam's instruction and entertainment magazine trend; affecting foreign's instruction and entertainment magazine trend on Vietnam' other magazine trends, inserts and innovating in newspaper and magazine offices. - More and more, we also have proposed three solutions: creating a special and facilitate legal framework; innovating content and form, investing in modern journalism. 12. Practical applicability, if any: - The thesis has out a comprehensive and systematic way of bringing looking at the development of Vietnam's instruction and entertainment magazine trend, from its trends, the effects of foreign's factors, its pictures to its concept and characteristics. Therefore, newspaper managers and appropriate authorities are able to construct and develop Vietnam's instruction and entertainment magazine trend. - The essential thorial issuses that the thesis has introduced are very practical, having a part in constructing Vietnam's instruction and entertainment magazine trend, as well as, renovating the operation of newspaper and magazine offices. - The thesis has proposed some feasible solutions to improve quality and efficiency of the instruction and entertainment magazine trend in practice. 13.
