10. Summary of project results:
This study provides an overview of depressive disorders. It reviews important research worldwide and in Vietnam, focusing on depressive disorders in young people. The study addresses fundamental issues related to this disorder, such as its concept, characteristics, causes, clinical features, and diagnostic criteria according to the DSM-5. Furthermore, the study discusses assessment and treatment methods, with the primary approach being cognitive behavioral therapy combined with relaxation techniques to help clients cope with stress and life challenges.
The intervention results showed that the client experienced a reduction in depressive symptoms, gradually replacing unhealthy and unhelpful beliefs with positive self-perceptions and life experiences. This improved mood, enhanced communication skills, and fostered positive relationships. Importantly, it helped the client overcome suicidal thoughts and learn coping mechanisms. Simultaneously, the client was able to apply these skills to manage stress, address problems, prevent relapses of depression and other life issues, increase self-confidence, and strengthen social skills.
11. Practical Applicability: Based on the results obtained through theoretical and practical research in clinical case therapy, this study has contributed further evidence on the effectiveness of the cognitive-behavioral approach in intervening in the symptoms of depressive disorders. In addition, the limitations of this thesis also provide new practitioners with lessons to improve the effectiveness of therapy in the future.
