This thesis assesses the reasons that prompted China to carry out military reforms, identifying both internal and external influencing factors. Particularly in the period since the 18th Party Congress, with continuous development in the economic, scientific, and technological fields, and especially with its enhanced international standing and role, China's "fifth generation of leaders," headed by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, has gradually prepared and implemented the process of reforming the Chinese military.

Currently, China has achieved significant initial successes in its reform process. Accordingly, China has made strong reforms to its leadership and command system, and the organizational structure of strategic-level units, initially forming a relatively complete leadership and command system. Although many difficulties and complexities remain, China possesses many fundamental advantages, so this current military reform will essentially be successful. In the future, China will accelerate the adjustment of military doctrine and strategy, and reform the organizational structure of operational and tactical-level units. With systematic and rigorous steps, from now until 2012 and beyond, the potential and strength of the Chinese military will be significantly enhanced, becoming a leading military force in the world.

Vietnam and China share many similarities, especially in politics. Therefore, this Chinese military reform program offers many important lessons that Vietnam can apply to building and developing its military and national defense, building a more regular, elite, and progressively modern Vietnamese People's Army, and making a significant contribution to the cause of building and protecting the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Especially in the period since the 18th National Congress, it is the continuous development in the fields of economy, science and technology, especially the position of the enhanced international role that has let the "5th generation of leaders" of China, headed by general secretary, President Xi Jin Ping, gradually prepare and implement the China's military reform process.

Now China has gained important initial successes in the process of reform. formation, China has vigorously reformed the leadership, commanding and organizational structure of strategic-level units, initially forming a relatively complete leadership and command system. Although there are still some difficulties and complications, China has many basic advantages. Therefore, the Chinese military reform will basically be successful this time. In the coming time, China will step up the adjustment of doctrines, military strategies and reform the organizational structure of campaign and tactical units. With strict and fundamental steps, from now to 2021 and the following years, the Chinese military's potentials and power will be strengthened to become one of the world's leading military forces.

Vietnam and China have many similarities, especially in politics.
