Realism in international relations is one of the traditional theories of international relations, with basic arguments about states, power and conflict. Realism theory is applied to explain disputes and conflicts in international relations.
The East Sea, with its important geostrategic position not only for the region but also internationally, has become a hot spot of competition for many countries. Based on the perspective of Realism, the Sino-US power competition in the East Sea stems from security-political and economic reasons and is demonstrated through each move made during the competition between the two sides.
The thesis provides assessments of the impact of the Sino-US power competition in the East Sea on the world, the region and Vietnam. At the same time, the thesis also provides some recommendations for Vietnam in how to respond to the tense competition in the East Sea based on the arguments of the international system, national self-reliance and national interests.

Realism is one of the traditional international relations theories based on the thesis of nation, power and conflict, which is applied to explain the dispute and conflict in international relations.
The East Sea with geo-strategic location is important not only in the regional level but also the international level and it also becomes the hot spot in the competition between nations who announced related interests. As the perspective of Realism, China-US power competition in the East Sea causes from the political-security and economic reasons and is proven through all movements in their competitive process.
China-US power competition in the East Sea has an enormous impact on the world, the region and Vietnam. There are several recommendations for Vietnam in behavior with competitive tension in the East Sea relying on the rules of the international system, self-reliance nation and national interests.
