The thesis researches community participation including surveying the level of community participation in tourism activities, factors promoting participation and barriers affecting community participation in tourism activities in Cu Lao Cham, Hoi An, Quang Nam province. The research results show that community participation in tourism activities here is at level 5 (passive participation) according to the Pretty scale (1999). The study also points out the factors promoting community participation and the level of influence of each factor. Identify the level of influence of barriers affecting community participation in tourism activities.
On that basis, the thesis proposed a number of solutions to attract community participation in tourism activities and limit barriers affecting the development of community-based tourism in Cu Lao Cham.
