South Korea and Vietnam share many similarities in history, culture, and people, and it is thanks to these similarities that both countries have always been determined to overcome the pain of the past to normalize relations. Finally, on December 22, 1992, South Korea and Vietnam established official diplomatic relations. To date, the friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries has spanned 30 years with memorable milestones. Beginning in 1992, relations were upgraded to a "comprehensive partnership" in the 21st century in 2001, and since 2009 to a "strategic cooperative partnership." This relationship has been continuously strengthened and promoted on both bilateral and multilateral levels, aiming towards the highest level of strategic partnership, "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," in 2022. The thesis highlighted the tremendous achievements in all areas, from economics, trade, and investment to culture, education, tourism, and science and technology, of the relationship between the two countries from 1992 to 2022. This pointed out the significant opportunities and potential for cooperation between the two countries, promising bright and positive prospects for their relationship.
Based on a study evaluating the development of South Korea-Vietnam relations during this period, this thesis provides a forecast of prospects and several policy recommendations to further deepen the cooperative relationship between South Korea and Vietnam.
