- The thesis has summarized the characteristics of bilateral trade relations before the 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis, clarifying the need of both Vietnam and Japan to strengthen this relationship after the crisis, in the context of constantly changing regional and international circumstances.

- Analyze the foreign economic policies of the two countries (related to promoting bilateral relations), clarify the changes in total trade volume, commodity structure, and value structure in bilateral trade, and explain the reasons (updated statistical figures).

- Through graphics and statistical tables, this study attempts to systematically and comprehensively research the development of Vietnam-Japan trade relations since the 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis, based on a comparison of increases and decreases in various goods, sectors, and total trade value.

- The thesis has essentially identified the key export items and industries of Vietnam to the Japanese market, while also clarifying opportunities and proposing solutions for developing bilateral trade relations between Vietnam and Japan in the future, creating further momentum for the relationship between the two countries to a new level: a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.

11. Summary of the findings of the thesis:

The thesis has identified basic features of the bilateral trade relationship between Vietnam and Japan that existed before the 1997 -1998 Asian financial crisis and clarifies the need for both countries to redefine and enhance their relationship post- crisis, in order to better manage, unexpected or unpredictable circumstances that can occur on both a regional and international level.

Analyzing the foreign economic policy of both countries (in relation to enhancing bilateral relations), and clarifying the change of commodity structure, turnover and structure of the value of two-way trade relationship explains the cause (updated figures).

Via graphics, tables of statistics, the thesis has tried its best to scientific study and relatively focus on the development of Vietnamese trade relations with Japan following the 1997 -1998 Asian financial crisis, by comparing the fluctuations in overall turnover and the goods and services group.

The thesis highlights the most significant exports from Vietnam to Japan by turnover and clarifies the opportunities, as well as the proposed solutions, for the development of the bilateral trade agreement in the near future and to create sufficient impetus to upgrade the relationship to a new level “The strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia”.
