10. Summary of the thesis results:

This thesis studies social assistance for the elderly in the community using both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The results obtained show that:

Of all the forms of social support in the relationships of the elderly, most older people value their relationships with their children and grandchildren, considering family to be the safest and most important support system.

While social assistance for the elderly has received attention from the government and the community, it remains general and not truly essential. Support activities related to healthcare, employment, and access to policy information are quite limited and receive little participation from relevant agencies. Raising community awareness about caring for and promoting the role of the elderly has not been given sufficient attention, especially support for elderly people in difficult circumstances, those who are lonely, and those without family support.

Currently, the entire commune has not yet developed a comprehensive and effective support model. Only a few activities exist, such as visiting Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, visiting elderly people when they are ill, and organizing birthday celebrations during the Lunar New Year. These support activities are not carried out regularly, and the social mobilization movement in the community has not yet received much attention and is not truly sustainable as the goals of social work aim for.

11. Practical applications:

The research findings will contribute to providing information about the elderly and impacting the implementation of policies related to social assistance for the elderly in Truc Tuan commune, as well as some solutions to be applied in social work for the elderly in the community.

These research findings will contribute to the reference materials for government agencies and social organizations, helping them understand the importance of social assistance for the elderly and thus pay more attention to supporting the lives of the elderly in the community in a more comprehensive way.

11. Summary of the findings of the thesis:

Research on Social support for the elderly in community by qualitative and quantitative methods shows:

Among social supports of the elderly relationships, the elderly appreciate the blood relationship in their family. They believe that family is the safest, and most important support.

Social support for the elderly is officially managed from the government, and community; it seems to be inadequate and unnecessary to them. Activities about health care, work, policy information access are quite limited and departments are not interested in those. That people's awareness about caring and the elderly's role is not focused; especially the support for the lonely, and poor elderly.

There are lacks of complete and effective supportive model in the whole commune. Few activities are carried out such as, heroic Vietnam mothers visiting, sick elderly visiting, Lunar New Year longevity organizing… These activities are not often held and socialization among community is not interested, unstable as the targets of the social work.

The thesis provides information on the elderly and effect on policy performance relating to social work at Truc Tuan commune, and suggests some solutions to social work application to the elderly in community.

Researches provide references to departments, social organization so that we can understand the importance of social support for the elderly, and take more care about the elderly life completely in our community.
