This thesis emphasizes the formation and development of the legend genre in the course of Vietnamese medieval literature. Through a comparison and evaluation of two representative works, we present:Legends of the StrangeandNew Legendary TalesWithin the context of the legend genre in the region and domestically, this study examines the evolution of the legend genre in Vietnam, demonstrating that evolution does not only mean progress; it can also involve setbacks. From this, it affirms the value of the legend genre in general, and the value of these two works in particular, in the development of Vietnamese written literature.

Through comparison, the evaluation of two typical works isLegendary TalesandLegend of the Broken HeartIn the flow of the tradition in the region and in the country, to look at the movement path of the traditional genre in Vietnam, proving that mobility is not meant only in the upward direction, advocacy may also have step backward. From there, affirming the value of the traditional genre in general and the value of two works in particular in the development of Vietnamese writing literature.
