First, the thesis systematically reviews the basic concepts related to the topic, such as communication, mass media, children, children's right to information, and online journalism. In particular, the thesis thoroughly presents the concept of "message" as well as its meaning and importance when journalists use it in online journalism.
Next, the thesis presents specific data on news articles related to children that appeared on three online newspapers (Dan Tri, Vietnamnet, and Tuoi Tre) in 2014. From this, it summarizes eight main issues concerning children that these newspapers focused on in their publications.
Specifically, the thesis evaluates the cultural values of these news articles, including: the objective and truthful value of the message; the ethical value of the message; and the aesthetic value of the message. These are new results achieved in the thesis's research on children in the media. With specific examples, the thesis identifies both the positive aspects and limitations of messages about children appearing on three online newspapers: Dan Tri, Vietnamnet, and Tuoi Tre. This contributes to demonstrating the reality of message content and its influence on public opinion when published on online media. Another new aspect of the thesis is the inclusion of reader reviews in the comments below the news articles to show the perspective and changes in readers' perceptions when receiving messages about children.
The thesis also provides predictions about the development of online journalism and, in particular, readers' interest in news articles about children.
