The thesis provides a general overview of the theoretical issues concerning the Mother Goddess worship and a general overview of the research area. Based on this, the thesis analyzes the practice of Mother Goddess worship through a study of several temples and shrines dedicated to the Mother Goddess in Hanoi from two perspectives: through the Hầu đồng ritual – a typical ritual of Mother Goddess worship – and through festivals and daily rituals.
The thesis has highlighted the value of the Mother Goddess worship practice for the spiritual aspects of the people, cultural and ethical values, and tourism – resources of Vietnamese Mother Goddess worship.
This thesis offers several recommendations for the current practice of Mother Goddess worship, aiming to promote its positive values and mitigate its negative aspects.
