11. Summary of the findings of the project:
The thesis project provides definitions, clinical features, and diagnostic criteria for hair-pulling behavior (trichotillomania). The definition of hair-pulling behavior used in the thesis is: “…characterized by significant hair loss due to recurrent, irresistible urges to pull out one's hair. Before hair pulling, a feeling of tension often increases, and after pulling, there is a feeling of relief or satisfaction.” The project also presents a description of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and an explanation of hair-pulling behavior from a CBT perspective. The student has also listed the clinical tools used in the assessment process and the intervention techniques within the project.
Chapter 2 of the thesis presents information about a clinical case, specifically a young adult with hair-pulling behavior, and the process of psychological intervention for the client. The clinical process was conducted in full compliance with ethical principles. Based on the information gathered through interviews and assessment results, the student proceeded with case conceptualization and developed an intervention plan. Overall, the client received a total of 12 intervention sessions. The post-intervention assessment results demonstrate the effectiveness of applying Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the young adult with hair-pulling behavior.
