Summary of Thesis Results: + The thesis affirms the role of VTV4 channel and online newspapers in relation to the Vietnamese public abroad. Since Vietnam connected to the Internet, the Vietnamese community abroad has had faster and more convenient access to domestic information. In particular, after VTV4 began broadcasting globally in 2000, it has become a vital source of information for the Vietnamese community in many countries. These mass media channels have helped bridge the geographical gap between communities at home and abroad, and have influenced the Vietnamese community abroad in understanding domestic issues. Combining research methods using questionnaires and in-depth interviews with groups of Vietnamese people in South Korea, Russia, and the United States, we found that online newspapers and VTV4 remain popular sources of information in these countries. However, the proportion of the public who prefer reading online newspapers versus watching VTV4 varies significantly, with the most popular sites including Dan Tri, Vnexpress, and Vietnamnet. + Through research, this thesis argues that, with the rapidly developing trend of multimedia communication, the Vietnamese diaspora will increasingly seek out multimedia sources in the future. For those living far from home, access to information through written language is often insufficient; they need to listen, watch, and choose their favorite programs at their convenient times. Therefore, the Vietnamese diaspora will prefer watching TV online whenever they need news about Vietnam. + The thesis proposes several solutions to improve the effectiveness of communication with the Vietnamese diaspora, such as: conducting comprehensive research on the Vietnamese diaspora to help communicators adjust their communication strategies to suit the needs, preferences, and habits of this group; and focusing on developing specialized online news sites for each group of Vietnamese diaspora. Specialized channels such as legal advice, cultural introductions, and Vietnamese language services are necessary and will be well-received by the Vietnamese diaspora if we do them well. + These are only initial assessments; due to the limitations of a personal survey, we have not been able to conduct more in-depth and extensive research on this audience group. However, the results are significant as a first study on the relationship between domestic mass media channels and the Vietnamese diaspora. 11. Practical applications: - The thesis results can be used as reference material for teaching and learning for teachers and students in related fields. - VTV4 and online newspapers can refer to the research results in adjusting and enhancing the quality of information to better meet the needs of this specialized audience group. 12. Further research directions: Research on the role of domestic mass media in promoting Vietnamese cultural traditions to Vietnamese people abroad. - Survey and evaluate the effectiveness of domestic mass media in promoting Vietnamese values to overseas Vietnamese and foreigners.

Summary of the findings of the thesis: +The thesis confirms the role of VTV4 channel, Online Newspapers of Vietnam with Overseas Vietnamese audiences. As our research results, after the Internet started being used in Vietnam in 1997, Overseas Vietnamese could access internal information in a faster but most effective, interactive and convenient way. Especially, after an official international TV channel of Vietnam named VTV4 launched in 2000, many Overseas Vietnamese in the world have considered it as their “rice channel”. These mass media have contributed to narrowing the geographical gap between the home land and Overseas Vietnamese as well as impacting on their public perception to domestic issues. + Research made through a survey and interview with Vietnamese audiences in South Korea, Russia and America revealed that VTV4 and Online Newspapers provide main information sources about the country for Vietnamese audiences there. However, the percentage of audiences' choice for each online newspaper is very different. The survey result shows that the most familiar websites to overseas Vietnamese audiences are Dantri and Vnexpress, Vietnamnet as well. + The thesis also gave a conclusion from the research that choosing multimedia communication is developing rapidly. Now a day, reading news through Online Newspapers seems to be not enough for Overseas Vietnamese. Besides that, they wish (or want) to listen, watch and choose their beloved programs to enjoy on their suitable times. Therefore, in the coming years, the Overseas Vietnamese audiences will likely turn to multimedia resources, and watching TV through the Internet will be useful for almost of them. + In summary, the thesis has proposed number of measures to improve the internal mass media in order to reach the interests of Overseas Vietnamese audiences. These include researching target audiences in general as well as specialized groups; paying attention to offer (or considering the publication of) customized online newspapers for Overseas Vietnamese audiences; consulting law, introducing culture, teaching Vietnamese are necessary fields which the audiences look forward to be served. This is just the initial evaluation. For an individual research, we cannot conduct in deeper and larger survey about these audiences. However, the thesis' result has contributed as one of the first research on relations between VTV4, internal Online Newspapers and Overseas Vietnamese audiences. 11. Practical applicability, if any: - The thesis result can be used as a reference teaching and learning for tutors and students in related fields. - Online Newspapers, VTV4 can refer to this thesis to adjust and improve the quality of content to be suitable with the audiences' interests and to serve them better. 12. Further research directions, if any: - Researching the role of mass media of Vietnam to promote and preserve traditional culture in Overseas Vietnamese communities. - Studying the effectiveness of Vietnam media in promoting the value of Vietnam to the world, with both Overseas Vietnamese and foreigners.
